Häromkvällen träffade vi Sophie Hannah, som just publicerat Monogrammorden i Sverige (utgiven av BookMark). Författaren valdes ut av Agatha Christies familj och fick den stora äran att författa en ny historia med Hercule Poirot i huvudrollen. Den kom inte ut bara i Sverige just nu förresten, world wide! Såg ni henne på Babel? Hon är en sådan där trevlig författare som vi bara vill sitta och prata med hela dagarna, dricka te och berätta hemligheter och skratta ihop med. Eller äta frukost!
God morgon Sophie! Vad äter du till frukost?
Actually, I eat something very peculiar for breakfast: dim sum (chinese dumplings) with tabasco (hot pepper) sauce. People think I’m crazy, but I don’t like cereal or toast or any of the normal breakfast foods.
Eeeh, ok! Läser du helst morgontidningen eller en roman till dim sum?
Neither. Over breakfast I read my emails and Twitter. I don’t ever read newspapers, and I read novels for pleasure in bed before I go to sleep, and when I’m travelling.

Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd – I think that starts with a breakfast table scene!

I’m reading a psychological thriller called You by Caroline Kepnes, about romantic obsession. I’m not very far into it but it’s very gripping so far.
Vad använder du som bokmärke?
Nothing. I’m afraid I’m one of those people who turns down the corner of the page. Though I wouldn’t do that with a book that meant a lot to me. But most novels I read go straight to the charity shop once I’ve finished them, and I don’t actually think there’s anything wrong with turning down the corners of pages, really. A book is something to be used and enjoyed, not preserved as if it’s some kind of holy relic.

In an ideal world they’d be in alphabetical order, but since I’m always too busy, my books are kept on different shelves all over the house, in no particular order. This makes finding individual books very difficult. I have to try and remember when and where I last saw a particular book. But the great thing about that is that I often find books I’d given up all hope of ever finding again!
